- Muyscaya Indian Creation Legend
- In the myths of the Muyscayas and the Chibchas light, which existed before all things, was brought to earth in a casket known as Chimini-Pagus and two blackbirds distributed the shining matter in their breaks. The Flood was caused by the moon goddess Chia, or Hunthaca, who flooded the land so that only a few survivors escaped by reaching the mountain tops. The earth being at the time without a moon she was transformed into our present-day Luna as a punishment. The survivors, under the leadership of their culture heroes Bochica, Nemquetcha, and Sua, set to work to organize life anew.
